The Dangerous Journey by Tove Jansson was originally published in 1977. Translated by Kingsley Hart, it tells the story of Susanna who finds a pair of magic spectacles that transport her from the field in which she is reading. She finds herself on an adventure filled with swamps, volcanoes , dried-up oceans and jungles that only the young girl’s friends from Moominvalley can help her with. The popular characters Sniff, Snufkin and Mo omin all show up, however it is Too-Ticky who is the real hero of the story as she is able to use her balloon to finally bring Susanna back home. The beautiful watercolors throughout the picture book use fresh, bright colors to create the exciting world of Moominvalley. It is the last of Jansson’s picture books, with two others published before it: The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My and Who Will Comfort Toffle?
