This idyllic image is quintessential Judy Joel, evoking the community spirit and charm of all her work. Judy was brought up in Chichester, West Sussex. After leaving the BBC where she worked as a Production Assistant, she started to paint purely for her own and her children’s amusement. Out of the blue she was offered an exhibition in London and her paintings are now in collections all over the world. Somewhere in each of her paintings is the white-haired figure of her Mum with a dog. In 1992 she and her husband moved to the lovely unspoilt fishing village of Mousehole in Cornwall and from 2005 until 2021 ran The Little Picture gallery there. In April 2021 they formed The Joel Gallery in Abbey Place. Judy is a member of the Association of British Naive Artists Association (ABNA) and especially enjoys painting commissions of life stories, weddings and people’s houses.
