A substantial vintage reference from the formative decades of modern Earth science, Glossary of Geology and Related Sciences was created as a cooperative project of the American Geological Institute, operating under the National Academy of SciencesNational Research Council.

This copy contains the Second Edition with Supplement, originally issued in 1960 and reprinted in August 1962. The original glossary project was coordinated by geologist J. V. Howell, with the supplement prepared by a review committee chaired by J. Marvin Weller of the University of Chicago.

Designed to standardize the enormous vocabulary used across geology and its related disciplines, the volume provides a snapshot of the terminology scientists were using during a particularly important period in Earth sciencejust as ideas surrounding plate tectonics, geophysics, ocean-floor exploration, and modern interpretations of Earth's history were rapidly developing.

Today it makes an interesting historical reference for geologists as well as collectors interested in the history of science, geology, mineralogy, paleontology, geophysics, and vintage scientific books.
