Arriving August 14th via URBNET, Moka Only’s latest offering, Many Pies, serves as a defiant manifesto against the reductive pigeonholing that often plagues prolific artists. Featuring the standout singles "Same Vibes" and "Daydream 2 Much," the album is less of a standard LP and more of a "thematic playground" designed to challenge the listener's perception of his craft. Moka himself insists on a deeper level of engagement, noting that the project is a testament to his decades of resilience and artistic evolution. As he puts it, "Forget the labels like ‘jazzy’, ‘smooth’, etc. Moka never intended to be reduced to being filed away into such simplistic boxes. Those are laymen’s terms used by the uninitiated and the unimaginative."
The record is structured to mirror Moka’s "ongoing journey," capturing the highs and lows of a career built on consistent output and authentic expression. Rather than providing a guided tour of the tracklist, Moka encourages his audience to "dig deep into this album and pick it apart, strand by strand," to truly grasp the communication beneath the surface. While he acknowledges the presence of jazz and smooth elements, he views them as mere components of a much "larger picture" of mood music. For those who have followed his storied career, this release represents a potential tipping point, as Moka suggests: "If the tipping point theory has any weight to it, then we should now be mere inches away from seeing the precipice upon which the inevitable landslide shall occur... It’s truly time. There’s pies to be had… by the plenty.”
